Reflections
Definition
The definition of reflection can vary depending on the context, but generally speaking, I think the definition that best exemplifies my personal thoughts about reflection is best defined as:
"Reflection teaches us there is no such thing as failure, only the development of personal insight from one’s experiences" (Bullock & Hawk, 2005).
This definition echoes my personal philosophy and my general attitude and approach toward life. The learning process doesn't have failures, but rather experiences gained which contribute towards personal growth. Reflecting back on our journey builds our experiences and our overall character.
Reflection
My ePortfolio is a collection of work that displays my personal growth in the ITMA program. The portfolio also contains my personal reflections about my journey through the ITMA program, so it reflects my thoughts and experiences.
I believe that reflection is important for everyone to do in order to grow and learn. For instance, in the educational context, having students reflect back on their work or on previous lessons, helps them build a solid foundation to build upon. Promoting reflective learning experiences exercises critical thinking and allows students to think about what was learned from the learning experience. Overall, I think reflection offers the opportunity to visit the past while building your future self.
One of my goals upon entering the ITMA program was to utilize my knowledge of psychology and have the opportunity to work in the higher education setting and design online instruction. this program has given me the opportunity to work on instructional design projects here at Virginia Tech. It has been a fantastic journey and I will certainly carry with me all that I have learned from the ITMA program.
Artifacts
This artifact reflects an outline of my current position and the tasks that I perform and relate it to the needs, technologies, space, time that I perform these tasks.
Plan for portfolio revision or http://www.filebox.itma.vt.edu/itma/bmarton/itma/idtportfolio/revision_Marton.docx
This artifact reflects my plan for revising my ePortfolio after the peer review was conducted. I listed out and expounded upon the reviewers comments and then listed the changes I made to my portfolio
This reflection is from the Portfolio course and demonstrates my perceptions of the instructional design process prior to the IDT program. I broke this reflection down into the AECT standards (design, develop, utilization, management, and evaluation).
This is an artifact I completed as part of the Portfolio course and examines my current approaches and experiences to design. I reflect upon current projects I am involved with both in my courses and work.
This is a reflection I completed for the Portfolio course. It describes the personal and professional impacts of the IDT program as well as why I consider myself an instructional technologist as a result of the program.
This is a reflection I wrote for the Distance Education course and describes my journey through the course and the process of designing and developing my project.
This is reflection I wrote for my project and Report class and describes the process I went through during the design, development, implementation, management, and evaluation of this project. It also describes the success and challenges I faced during this process.
Digital Mediated Learning Reflection
In this reflection, I responded to a series of questions posed regarding a product and it's design and function. I reflected on possible answers to why the product was designed the way it was. I also reflected on my on-going project for the course.
